For the artists who don’t have a place in life is the art their homeland. A quote by Teresa Feodorwna Ries.
Ceramic pieces of Anna Bochkova continuing her research towards witch’s refuge from mythology and fairy tales. These houses are taking an inspiration from a Slavic mythological folklore- witches house on chicken legs.
Witch’s houses embody not only a resemble of physical motion but also emotions. They reflect the theme of migration and exile which impacted life of Teresa Feodorwna Ries.
In Slavic fairy tales the witch (Baba Yaga) was the queen of the forest, the one who understood its supreme and magical power and could rule it. Forest is a symbol of live path where the main protagonist needs to gain experience and learn more about live. The house of the witch ‘IZBA’ symbolizes a gate, a portal between live and death. The protagonist needs to know a spelling so this house will turn with its frontal part to the one who uses these special words. Even the word witch in from old Slavonic means the one who knows truth. Witch is an example of female power; the power which goes through the years and centuries, awaiting the right moment to manifest itself. Exactly as a sculpture of Teresa Feodorwna Ries with the same name, that silently awaited her moment in the composting area of Oberlaa Park.
